Mandala Designs: A Spiritual Summary

Regarded as the spiritual and ritual symbol in Hinduism & Buddhism, Mandala is a profound word that represents The Universe. We, as Hindus and Buddhists, are unknown from our core beliefs and practices from the centuries ago. This might be the reason why most of the people are not aware of this spiritual term because our ancestors and priest families decided not to teach Vedas to those who are not eligible to know about them.

In Hinduism and Buddhism, there a lot of traditions and spiritual symbols that represent the universe. Vedas and Upanishads are full of those symbols. These Vedas & Upanishads are written in code languages which are not understandable to the common people. Our whole self will not be enough to understand a single symbol presented in these Vedas or Upanishads.

They come to you as flashes from the depth of consciousness in moment of heightened awareness which needs practicing meditation for years.

Once you’re done finding a perfect place for drawing Mandala, you can follow the steps below:

Create mandala designs on your own

Step #1:

First of all, place a thick paper on the drawing board on which you are going to draw the Mandala.

Now draw a circle with the help of drafting compass on paper. This circle is going to be the actual size of your mandala so draw the mandala accordingly.

Step #2:

Now divide the circle into 4 quadrants. Draw a horizontal line crossing through the centre and then a vertical line through the centre again.

Step #3:

easy mandala drawings

Draw a small circle inside the large circle with same centre.

Step #4:

Draw some organic shapes coming out from each quadrant and starting from the small circle.

Step #5:

Add some more shapes with different height. These shapes can be same as you draw in start or can be a new one. Just try to be artistic and rest will keep falling into the place itself.

Step #6:

You will have to continue adding more shapes of your choice to cover all spaces inside the circle. You can further divide the quadrants into sectors by drawing a line with equal space on both sides for making it a slight easier.

Step #7:

Continue to add shapes until you covered all space inside the circle. You can expand the circle if you want bigger size.

Step #8:

If you work with pencil, fill all the linings with black sketch pen to look more beautiful and intricate.

Then erase all the penciled lines.

Your Mandala is ready. Now you can color it or leave it colorless too. The one I explained above is the basic one. There are many other designs and varieties of Mandalas. Once you have mastered basic mandala designs, you can also try drawing hand-shaped Mandalas, Elephant Mandalas, Eyes Mandalas, and Heart-Shaped Mandalas etc.

Above picture presents a simple mandala flower ideas for you to give a pattern and shape to your mandala. You can also explore other mandala designs as well if you don’t wanna draw this one. And the best part is, you can also use these mandala designs as the mandala tattoo designs if you want to have a spiritual tattoo on your body.

Simple steps to create easy mandala designs

It takes only 40-50 minutes to fill a Mandala with colors. Be seated in a child’s pose as I suggest it is most comfortable one.

Tips:

  1. Stay calm and don’t rush. Fill colors as slowly as you can.
  2. Use both light and dark colors.
  3. Using pencil colors for coloring mandalas is best. With pencils you can fill the large portions as well as small points easily. Pencil helps to fill colors as shading as well as whole.
  4. If you are choosing Color Markers to fill a Mandala, then you have to know they are costly than pencil colors. Furthermore, they come with fine nibs and dark colors but you cannot use them for shading part.
  5. Other option is to have a fine Color brush and Color Bottles. A fine brush with water colors helps you fill the shapes easily. But water colors will fade over the time.

If you follow these tips, you Mandala will be finished with hues light and dark colors; hard and soft textures; and a stunningly Beautiful Glimpse! You can also use this art as a mandala tattoo design if you love your body inked!

These are the simple steps to draw mandala designs in 2020.
